About Students Speak Freely
Students Speak Freely is an educational initiative dedicated to helping students, families, educators, and communities better understand First Amendment rights in K–12 schools.
Through educational resources, case analysis, articles, interviews, and student-centered content, the project explores the principles of free expression and the landmark cases that have shaped student speech rights in the United States.
The First Amendment plays an important role in civic life, yet many students are unaware of the rights and responsibilities that accompany freedom of expression. Students Speak Freely was created to make these topics more accessible, understandable, and relevant to young people and those who support them.
Whether you are exploring a landmark Supreme Court decision, learning the basics of student speech rights, reading a student perspective, or discovering organizations that advocate for free expression, our goal is to provide educational resources that encourage informed civic engagement and respectful dialogue.
We believe that informed students become engaged citizens. By helping students understand their rights and responsibilities, we hope to encourage thoughtful participation in the conversations that shape our schools, communities, and democracy.
